Well, what a year it's been! I've gotten VERY good at cancelling, postponing and rescheduling in the last 14 months. It's become a normal part of our lives, hasn't it?
During this time of uncertainty I think we've all taken a look at what is important, what is necessary and what is not. It makes us appreciate how fragile and precarious life can be. We must choose the times we venture out wisely, and choose WHO we spend time with more wisely as well. Never before have we had to be so particular! While my husband, Pat, and I reflected on all of those things while driving 14 hours home after dropping our youngest daughter off at her first year of college (2 weeks late because of Covid-19, but still way better off than many,) we decided it was time for a change.
He had set up our family business to be able to work from anywhere - a Covid silver lining for many. My father was about to turn 80, and lived alone in a house we owned with him on the west coast of sunny Florida. My business was taking a natural hiatus. We were empty nesters. No state income tax. We got thinking, LET'S MOVE TO FLORIDA! So , move we did! We have been living in Florida with my dad since January. Our house in Saratoga is up for sale, and we expect it to sell soon. In the next 6-12 months, we will move somewhere a little bigger with Dad in tow, but for now, we are appreciating the simpler life. (The 8 rounds of besties coming to visit really helped!). What can be bad about sunny days and sandy beaches?
So, the transition of Karen & Company will slowly begin. 2020, my third year in the Event Planning business, was going to be a big year for me, but it was not meant to be. Hey! I learned a lot, and onward we go. It's not really starting from scratch if I'm starting with even more knowledge, confidence and passion than ever before, right? 2021 will be for rebuilding, and 2022 - watch out!
With every sunset, there is a sunrise to follow. Stay tuned. Stay heathy. Keep celebrating.
Sincerely,
Karen Ricci
